Relative Of 'La Barbie' Cartel Leader Pleads Guilty To Drug Charges
Jason Buch with the San Antonio Express-News reports that a relative of Texas native and alleged drug cartel leader Edgar Villarreal, a.k.a. "La Barbie," has pleaded guilty to federal charges of drug trafficking involving cocaine.
Buch's report centers on 47-year-old Juan Montemayor, the relative who faces life behind bars on these charges, who appears to be La Barbie's father-in-law.
La Barbie is rumored to have battled for control over the Beltran Leyva drug cartel after the boss was killed in 2009, but has since been arrested and is currently being held in Mexico, along with his brother.
Juan Montemayor's case centers on cocaine distribution in Atlanta. La Barbie, Carlos Montemayor, and Juan Montemayor are alleged to have brought in large quantities of cocaine into Atlanta, which was bought up by large distributors.
