Single Vehicle Rollover Accident Involves Three Fatalities
The tragic rollover accident involving the deaths of three young men from Texas is a reminder to wear your seatbelt and try not to drive while sleepy. One of those who died, 19-year-old Polo Manukainiu, tweeted: "22 hour drive back to Texas on no sleep. Oh my." Manukainiu was a defensive lineman at Texas A&M. He hadn't been the one driving, apparently, but the driver may have also been running low on sleep.
According to the Dallas Morning News, the driver drifted out of the lane and overcorrected, causing the SUV to roll over many times. Drifting out of the lane and overcorrecting is a sign that the driver may have nodded off.
As opposed to other rollover accidents where the extent of the injuries could have been minimized had the vehicle been better designed to avoid a crushed roof in the event of a rollover, an accident report from the New Mexico Department of Public Safety indicates that all three who died weren't wearing their seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle when it rolled over.
