American Idol Casey James on surviving a motorcycle accident
As Gayle Thompson writes for the Boot, American Idol contestant Casey James, originally from Fort Worth, Texas, has learned to appreciate what he has after a motorcycle accident almost killed him.
James, country singer and songwriter, placed third on American Idol's ninth season and opened for well-known country band Sugarland. He's since moved to Nashville and has been working on a debut album.
As Thompson reports, James says, "It's [the motorcycle accident] affected me as a person in every way. It opened my eyes up to the fact that I was taking a lot of things for granted and you never know when could be the last time you say goodbye to somebody, or the last time that you play guitar, or sing. All those things being forefront in my mind now, I really appreciate everything that I've got and the time that I have."
Thompson makes no direct reference to the facts of the motorcycle accident, such as what caused it or who was at fault, if anyone - but we do know that the chances of a life-threatening injury are greater on a motorcycle than in a car.
Perhaps James was wearing a helmet.
