Nobody Scares You off DWI Quite Like the British
As Tim Nudd writes for Adweek, a "tour de force acting performance" in a 30-second TV advertisement warning folks about the consequences of drunk driving certainly makes us wonder whether anyone does public service announcements better than the British.
It's the day after Christmas, and if you've been pulled over for DWI this week, you might picture yourself standing in front of this same bartender in the commercial, who deadpans: "What will it be?" after running through a sorry monologue about the bar patron's future after having got caught for DWI.
"Extremely creepy," Nudd says.
The bartender impersonates several of the folks you'll run into after getting charged, including a police officer and your employer.
As the cop, he says: "Would you mind stepping out of the car and doing a breath test?"
As the judge, he says: "Look, you've had two pints, you're over the limit ..."
And as the boss, he says: "Hey-it's company policy. I've got to let you go."
But this post doesn't do the TV spot justice. You'll have to follow the link below and see it for yourself. And if you find yourself at the bar anytime soon, remember not to overdo it when the bartender asks you, "So, what will it be?"
